On May 31, police in Istanbul attacked a group of peaceful protestors in Taksim Square. The Turkish state controlled media said only a few people were injured. OWS activists in US rally in solidarity with Turkish protesters
Hundreds of people, including activists from the Occupy Wall Street movement, have staged a demonstration in New York City to voice their support for anti-government rallies in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

The protesters gathered in Zuccotti Park - the birthplace of the Occupy Wall Street movement in Lower Manhattan - on Saturday, and marched nearly 5 kilometers (3 miles) to the Turkish consulate.

Some of the demonstrators carried signs reading “Istanbul is not alone,” while others waved the Turkish national flag.

The Occupy Wall Street movement announced in a statement that the event was held with the goal to direct public attention to Istanbul’s Gezi Park protests, and the subsequent violent crackdown on the protests by Turkey's ruling AK Party, led by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Similar demonstrations are scheduled to be held in several major US cities, including Austin, Boston and Chicago.......READ MORE

The ideology of Neo-liberalism takes another slap in the face and Istanbul is rockin with revolution! Welcome world to the new Turkey.

This morning at 1 pm college kids from Bogazici University (Turkey’s equivalent of Berkeley University in the USA) got angry. They learned that at least three peaceful protesters in Istanbul’s Gezi Park had been killed on May 31st by Turkish police. A spontaneous protest march began from Bogazici Campus. Within an hour a few hundred students had turned into over 5,000 residents from all walks of life in Turkey. The crowd’s goal was to march to heart of Istanbul, Taksim Square where protesters had lost their lives the day before.

June 5 2013 08:40 GMT: People across the world are rallying to support Turkish protesters and demand that Ankara stop its crackdown. Solidarity actions were held in Canada, Greece, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and the US, among other countries. See RT’s galleries for more.
