The Urantia Book—100 times more substance than Mormon/Christian scripture
The Bible is the basis for all Christianity’s beliefs. For the Mormons (Latter Day Saints), their scriptural source also includes the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price. Neither Christianity nor Mormonism have 'officially' embraced The Urantia Book--printed in 1955 and of no organized religious affiliation. The Urantia Book claims to contain revealed truths, history and cosmology that includes, and makes sense of, all the religions of the world—even those religions not based upon Jesus of Nazareth. One could easily say the Urantia Papers contain 100 times more information about God, time, space and history than do the traditional “scriptures of the world.”

From Mormonism’s formative years, there are scriptural references strongly alluding to “a greater record to come” which would contain the “mysteries of the universe” wherein “all things shall be revealed from the beginning of time.”
“And when they shall have received this, which is expedient that they should have first, to try their faith, and if it shall so be that they shall believe these things then shall the greater things be made manifest unto them.
And if it so be that they will not believe these things, then shall the greater things be withheld from them, unto their condemnation.” (3 Ne. 26:9,10)
The Book of Mormon, printed in approximately 1830, refers to itself as the “lesser portion” and speaks boldly regarding the “greater portion” to come. No account or claim fills that criterion of the greater things to come … that is, until 1955, when the Urantia Papers materialized.
Behold, I have written upon these plates the very things which the brother of Jared saw; and there never were greater things made manifest than those which were made manifest unto the brother of Jared. (Ether 4: 4)
And he that will contend against the word of the Lord, let him be accursed; and he that shall deny these things, let him be accursed; for unto them will I show no greater things, saith Jesus Christ; for I am he who speaketh.” (Ether 4:8)
In the book of Alma, it is recorded that he who receives the lesser portion with gladness “to him is given the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full.” (Alma 12: 10)
The Book of Mormon depicts how Jesus appeared here, to the American continent people right after his resurrection in Jerusalem. Those on site, who were asked to write about the new-world appearance, wrote:
“And now there cannot be written in this book even a hundredth part of the things which Jesus did truly teach unto the people;” (3 Ne 26: 6)
And a hundredth part of the proceedings of this people, which now began to be numerous, cannot be written upon these plates; but many of their proceedings are written upon the larger plates, and their wars, and their contentions, and the reigns of their kings.” (Jacob 3: 13)
Mormon himself, from whom the Book of Mormon was named, says, regarding the things which he writes in the ‘lesser portion’ of his plate-record…
“Wherefore, I chose these things, to finish my record upon them, which remainder of my record I shall take from the plates of Nephi; and I cannot write the hundredth part of the things of my people.” (Words of Mormon 1:5)
“And whoso receiveth this record, and shall not condemn it because of the imperfections which are in it, the same shall know of greater things than these. Behold, I am Moroni; and were it possible, I would make all things known unto you.” (Mormon 8: 12)
No person, religion or organization claims to have authored the Urantia Papers … rather, its various authors’ claim are of celestial origin. But does the Urantia Book really reveal a hundred times more information than other Christian scripture? Consider the following:
The word “Jesus” is used:
- 943 times in the Bible
168 times in the Book of Mormon
108 times in the Doctrine and Covenants
15 times in the Pearl of Great Price
7,287 times in the Urantia Papers
This does not count the references to Jesus as the word-term “Master,” which is often used in the Bible, and very often used in the Urantia Papers.
This word “Master” is noted:
- 67 times in the Bible
0 times in the BofM
9 times in the D&C
0 times in the PGP
1,421 times in the Urantia Papers
In addition, “Michael,” in the Urantia Papers is the personage of Jesus ‘before’ becoming a mortal on earth.
The word “Michael” is used:
- 61 times in the Bible
6 times in the BofM
1 time in the D&C
0 times in the PGP
549 times in the Urantia Papers
The LDS (Mormon) teach that Jesus was the “Creator of heaven and earth.” This is in total alignment with the Urantia Papers.
The word “Creator” is used:
- 5 times in the Bible
10 times in the BofM
1 time in the D&C
1 time in the PGP.
869 times in the Urantia Papers
Other keyword elements of Christendom would be: Adam and Eve, Garden of Eden, Melchizedek, Abraham, Angels, Crucifixion, Resurrection.
Below is a count on the mention of each in the aforementioned Christian scripture, and the count from Urantia Papers.
“Adam” is mentioned:___________________“Eve” is mentioned:
27 in the Bible_______________________________4 times in the Bible
25 times in the BofM_________________________3 times in the BofM
28 times in the D&C__________________________1 time in the D&C
51 times in the PGP__________________________7 times in the PGP
513 times in the Urantia Papers________________380 times in Urantia Papers
“Garden of Eden” is mentioned:
- 19 times in the Bible
9 times in the BofM
3 times in the D&C
12 times in the PGP

The word “Melchizedek” is used:
- 3 times in the Bible
4 times in the BofM
23 times in the D&C
7 times in the PGP and JST
564 times in the Urantia Papers
This one was a surprise … the name “Abraham” is mentioned:
- 230 times in the Bible
27 times in the BofM
30 times in the D&C
19 times in the PGP
171 times in the Urantia Papers
The words “angel, cherubim or seraphim” is used:
- 343 times in the Bible
168 times in the BofM
95 times in the D&C
4 times in the PGP
1043 times in the Urantia Papers
The words “crucifixion, crucify or crucified” is mentioned:
49 times in the Bible
8 times in the BofM
11 times in the D&C
0 times in the PGP
121 times in the Urantia Papers
The words “resurrected, resurrection or resurrect” is used:
- 42 times in the Bible
59 times in the BofM
26 times in the D&C
2 times in the PGP
285 times in the Urantia Papers
It is surely an opinion whether or not the Urantia Book ‘is’ that “greater record to come,” but, it is a fact that the above mentioned Christian terminologies, and critical tenants of Christianity, are used “a hundred times” so-to-speak, more voluminous in the Urantia Papers, than in the renown Christian scriptures.
